This series of paintings began with a series of self portraits as Cindy Sherman. I’m dealing with issues of appropriation, popular culture, celebrity worship and the changing nature of role-playing. Sherman’s images are a fantasy of herself in various roles, which I’ve used as a vehicle to create a fantasy of myself as Cindy Sherman: the art star. This led me to render myself as other well known artists, such as Sophie Calle, Jeff Koons, or Bruce Nauman.
